Rupert Oscar Millar

We are celebrating the life of an exceptional husband; father, brother, uncle, cousin, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather, and beloved friend. Rupert Oscar Millar known as “Little Pat” early in life and later affectionately referred to as “Daddy Pert” was born on May 13, 1926. The first child to Pat Spencer and Federica Miller in Church Village, Barbados West Indies. Rupert was called to glory on April 12, 2018.
Rupert would be remembered for his infectious smile, vigor for life, love of music & dancing, and poetic way with words. He truly enjoyed the company of family & friends and led a very happy life. As owner of a social club in Brooklyn, NY to the Friday night gatherings at home he enjoyed being surrounded by friends and loved ones. His memorable bus rides and numerous parties thrown will be cherished and remain in the hearts of many to this day. Rupert also loved reading, watching the news and completing the N.Y. Times crossword puzzles daily. He was truly a multifaceted individual that will be missed by all!
As young man Rupert studied at the Codrington College of Seminary and later traveled to the U.S in 1968 to pursue an education at the New York Institute of Dietetics. After receiving his certification he began his professional career at John Hancock Life Insurance Company and then at Debutogs Inc. After 20 plus years of service he retired from The New York Congregational Home for the Aging. Rupert remained active in his retirement pursuing entrepreneurial opportunities and partaking in many business endeavors.
Rupert devoted his life to serving Christ at an early age attending Saint Michael Cathedral as a member of the choir and alter assistant. After his wife and family joined him in the U.S. they attended Saint George’s Episcopal Church. For 20 plus years he was an active member of Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church where he served as choir member, council member, President & VP of the Council and lastly as superintendent. He returned to the 7 Days Adventist Church serving as a Deacon at River of Life up until his passing.
Rupert was preceded in death by his parents Pat Spencer and Federica Miller, wife Phyllis Millar, sisters Dorene Miller & Velda Merrit, brothers Leroy Miller & Byron Miller and son Byron Jackman. He is survived by his sister Joyce Scott, children Rodney, Margaret, Heather, Cheryl, Gregory, Veronica, David, Shelly, Roger, Margaret and Michael. He will be greatly missed by his 20 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren & great great grandchild, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
