CLAUDETTE AGATHA GANNESS-PAYNE, departed this life on Wednesday,
August 28, 2019 at 77 years old. Claudette was born in Brazil Village, Trinidad on
July 19, 1942 to the parents of the late James and Emmerlin (Irene) Bridgewater
Preceded her in death are: Father - James Ganness; Mother - Emmerlin Ganness;
Sister - Vernice Harewood, as well as her Brother - Fitzpatrick (Fitzoy) Ganness.
Claudette was united in Marriage on September 12, 1968 to Melvyn Hudson Payne
and remained a caring and devoted wife for 51 years before her passing.
She spent her childhood in the village of Brazil and during her adolescent years
relocated to the South of Trinidad to complete her education, residing with her
sister (Vernice) and her family. It was during these years she was instrumental as a
nurturing role model to all of her loving nieces and nephews. Claudette also
obtained four G.C.E. Level passes from the Egypt Government School and her
dedication to education took her further on a path of teaching which she did for
over nine years.
It was in 1966 that Claudette migrated to the United States to pursue her dreams.
She went on to work for Manufacturers Hanover Trust for over nine years before
enrolling in Medgar Evans College where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in
Accounting and graduated Summa Cum Laude.
After the passing of her sister Vernice, Claudette embraced the caring role as a
mother gure to her beloved nieces and nephews and became a home maker who
found her passion for baking. Claudette developed a devoted and deep spiritual
connection with our Lord (SHE CALLED HIM MY JESUS) and proudly
professed her faith. She was a willing and able vessel in helping others hear and
understand God’s word.
Mourning her passing and celebrating her life are: Husband: Melvyn Payne; nieces
and nephews Diana Harris, Ivan, Shari, Winston, Christine, Sylvia and Kelvin
Harewood and the entire Bridgewater family; brother-in-law Winston Payne;
nieces and nephews: Patsy, Sandra, Beverly, Yolanda, Erleen, Brent, Kent, Hyarima
and Andrew. Also a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, family and caring friends.
You will forever be remembered in our hearts.
