Shawn H. Leslie

July 29, 1991 ~ November 3, 2021 (age 30)

Shawn Haughton Leslie aka Da Don, Boo and Lil Shawn was born on July 29, 1991 on the beautiful Caribbean Island of Dominica. He was the handsome son of Celia & Stanley Legros and Sharnel Mitchell. Shawn passed away on the morning of November 3, 2021, with his loving family by his side.

Shawn was raised in Brooklyn, New York and graduated from Boys & Girls High School. He also went to Kingsborough college. Shawn was very business oriented and always looked for ways to collaborate with like minded individuals. He was the definition of hustler’s ambition.

Shawn worked with the United States Post Office with aspirations to become an engineer with the Federal Agency. He was always thinking of bigger and better things.

Shawn lived his life to the fullest, affecting everyone that he touched with his spirit, smile and sense of humor, bringing joy to anyone who crossed his path. He once aspired to be a firefighter and some of his closest friends are witness to his life saving capabilities. He literally saved their lives. Shawn was very family orientated and
enjoyed game night, family gatherings, the beach, traveling and just being in good company. In his words “shindigs keep the family together”. Shawn was a brother to everyone he touched.

Shawn was loving, supporting and caring but most of all, a devoted father to his only child Kishawn. Shawn made sure Kishawn knew he was loved. We will continue to make sure that Kishawn remembers how kind, caring and ambitious his father was. Many of us hold several of his traits, so that when we gather, Shawns presence will forever be with us.

Shawn was an old and gentle soul! He loved cooking, music and animals. Shawn had the heart of a lion. He was a true alchemist who made the best out of any situation. Even in his worst moments, Shawn fought for everyone else. Shawn fought for his family. He was the biggest protector of his mother and sister with his “man of the house” persona. Shawn put everyone else’s needs before himself. It did not stop with his family. The number of friends he had and the caring nature he possessed is a further testament to the type of person he was.

Life without Shawn will never be the same. He has taken a piece of our heart and soul with him. Shawn leaves behind his only child Kishawn, grieving parents; Celia, Stanley and Sharnel. His siblings: Stephenie, Esco, Alana and Zaria. Grandmothers: Ann (Birdy), Deena & Marie-Raymonde. The loving mother of his son, Kiana. His aunts: Maria, Anna, Kim, Lorraine and Lottie. His Uncles; Markey, Mervin, Joseph & Rodolph. Shawn’s extended family includes Cousins Shaneka, Shondreka, Desiree, Zeatillia, Deasia, Zena, Marvin, Sammie, Kareem, Kayla, Ericka, Jessicka, Nicka, Ricky and Tatyana. Family love includes Freda, Lashawn, Shea, Tyrone, Kennel, Uncle Larry, Donna, Niah, Mekhi, Paula, Chris, Craig, Clardy, Ralph, Curtis, and Gail. He also leaves behind the love of Stephanie W., the entire Vigier family, Naya and his blood brothers; Kevin, Jermaine, Junior (Greg), Erick (Ricky), Robert, Rome, Dre, Schavez (Pops).

The family of the late Shawn Leslie wishes to express a deep and heartfelt appreciation for your loving thoughtfulness and concern, including cards, flowers, phone calls, text, tributes, visits, your presence here and especially the comfort of your continuous prayers. We also appreciate those who sent their love from near and far to encourage us during this difficult time. May God bless and keep each of you in his loving embrace and care.

“Finally, finally, On my tombstone when they bury me, by the river they will carry me, I’ll be resting in peace, finally, finally”
