Winifred Lauretta Foster nee Brandt born at Zeeburg on the West Coast of Demerara,
Guyana (British Guiana) to Wilfred and Laura Brandt (both deceased) on Friday
January 20, 1950 died on Thursday June 16, 2022 in Manhattan New York at the age of
Winifred’s keen desire to learn and excel started with homeschooling until the age of 5
then unto kindergarten private School, Anglican Primary School in Met-en-meerzorg,
Uitvlugt Church of Scotland School (where she wrote and passed her common
entrance examination), British Educational Trust College in Georgetown, Normal
Educational Institute in Vergenoegen EBE (where she wrote the English Exam – College of Preceptors and the GCE General Certificate of Education obtaining passes in 7 subjects in each set of exams).
At the time of her transition Winifred was a retired principal, a vocation that started
some 52 years ago when she commenced her teaching career at the age of 18 as a
pupil teacher. She taught in Guyana at St. Stephens Anglican School, Parika Salem
Government School and North Georgetown Secondary School; in Grenada she taught
at the St. David’s Secondary School (head of Department for Social Studies) and the
Westerhall Secondary School (Principal). She loved what she did and with extreme
passion and commitment gave 42 years of her life to imparting knowledge and
administration to schools in Guyana and Grenada.
Winifred loved to garden and engage in outdoor activities relating to nature. She
enjoyed a good game of scrabble or any other game or activity that was competitive in
nature. She always had a keen desire to excel and do her best at whatever she put her
Winifred had an infectious smile and a warm and caring personality that made her easy
to talk to and love. She was loved by all she came into contact with who described her
as the epitome of kindness, grace and a beautiful soul. She did not pass through, but
she touched and left an indelible mark on all whom she came into contact with.
Her love for God was second to none and was a prayer partner and intercessor for
many. Her charitable nature was evident in all that she did as she always found a way
to give out of the little she had. She has been a blessing to many and as a result God
has blessed her beyond measure. Her cup has been overflowing.
Winifred is survived by her husband Arthur, children Francine, Fenella, Winart and
Winfield, Grandchildren Samuel, Chelsie, Joshua and Caylee; siblings Boris, Coleen,
June Leslie; In laws Micah, Shari, Tina, Bonita, and Avalon nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. Though not present with us,
Winifred is now present with her Lord her legacy continues to live on and her light
continues to shine brightly. She will be greatly missed. May her soul rest in eternal
